Lando Calrissian and the Flamewind of Oseon

By: L. Neil Smith

Lando Calrissian and the Mindharp of Sharu is a novel set in the Star Wars universe that takes place during the Rise of the Empire era, and is the second of three books in The Adventures of Lando Calrissian trilogy.

Plot: Lando Calrissian and  Vuffi Raa are off to gamble in the Oseon system. But someone is out to get Lando. When he gets arrested by the Oseon police for defending himself against a would be assassin, the punishment is death. Lando is then offered a deal in which his life will be spared, and all he has to do is deliver a package and help the local police capture a criminal. In the end he learns that enemies, and friends aren't always as the seem.

Review: Not as ingenius as the first novel in the series.  As most often is the case, the second novel suffers from the "middle child" deficiency.  The description of the Flamewind is well described, but goes on for more pages than I would like to mention.  The last 30 pages gained this book 2 more stars.  The trend is starting to form for this author, good beginning, great ending.  Just like doughnuts though, the middle can be the best part if the story has many aspects.
