The Associate

By: John Grisham

The Associate is a legal suspense thriller about an associate who is blackmailed into joining a firm to find out about a defense contractor's military secrets.

Plot: Kyle McAvoy, a young student about to graduate from Yale Law, has his whole life ahead of him.  He is the editor of the Yale Law Review, and has his pick of many jobs when he graduates.

Then his world turns upside down when a strange man named "Benny" tells him that he will show a video of a bad night in Kyle's life to the world if he does not join a firm called Scully & Pershing.  Later, Kyle will find out that Benny wants him to reveal secrets about Trylon Aeronautics, who have the design for a B-10 HyperSonic Bomber for The Pentagon.  Now Kyle is forced to choose between his life and his ethics in this nonstop action thriller.

Review:  A true look into the use and abuse of a first year associate in a major New York law firm.  The book is impossible to put down, but has a very anticlimactic ending.
