Rings of Ice

By: Piers Anthony

This book is about a group of people trying to deal with endless rain, as a science experiment in space goes awry and begins to flood the earth.

Plot: What would happen if rings of space ice surround the Earth, get to close, and then begin to melt?  The oceans would rise, the world would end, and a few people would have to ban together to survive, and repopulate the earth.

That is exactly what this novel is about.  A bunch of scientists think they can solve the earth's energy crisis by redirecting ice to create rings around the earth, much like Saturn.  The ice was supposed to be used as mirrors to deflect the sun's energy down to the surface; instead, the rings begin to melt.

Now, a group of six very different individuals must ban together, head for high ground, hope for the rain to end, and survive the end of the world as we know it.

Review:  Definately a novel with interesting characters.  The scientific ideas in the novel are really sound, and the plot goes fast, sometimes a little too fast.  This is one of the few novels that should have been a little longer with more detail.  This book definately strips humanity down to the necesseties of survival.  No overromanticizing the end of the world on this one!  All in all, the novel has very interesting characters, and is a great read on a nice rainy afternoon!
